Comprehensive Carrier Screening

Clinical Labs offers a comprehensive test that involves screening up to 460 genes. This test is suitable for individuals of all ethnicities seeking an expanded assessment of their risk of having a child with a genetic condition. Our Comprehensive Carrier Screening test evaluates an individual’s carrier status for more than 100 inherited conditions.

Our Comprehensive Carrier Screening includes:
 

  • Screening for 100+ inherited conditions, including up to 460 genes

  • Over 90% of conditions recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG)

  • Genetic conditions which are more common in individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry

  • Serious childhood-onset conditions, some of which appear on newborn screening

  • Enhanced testing, including full gene sequencing with deletion and duplication analysis leading to a 99% detection rate for most genes
  • Actionable results; no reporting of variants of unknown significance

COST

The cost for our Comprehensive Carrier Screening test is $595 - no Medicare rebate is available. Partner testing is also $595. 

TESTING LOCATIONS
After you have had a discussion with your doctor about genetic carrier screening and have a referral, you can visit any of our 1,300 Clinical Labs collection centres located throughout Australia for your test; there is no need to book. RESULTS
Results for your Comprehensive Carrier Screening test will be with your referring doctor 7-9 weeks after the receipt of your blood sample at our laboratory.

GENETIC COUNSELLING
For positive cases (tested by Clinical Labs), Clinical Labs offers one genetic counselling session per couple at no cost, upon your doctor’s request. Any follow-up consultations, if necessary, will incur an out-of-pocket fee.

Ashkenazi Jewish Carrier Screening

Ashkenazi Jewish Carrier Screening can determine whether you or your partner are carriers of any of the eight genetic conditions we test for, that are most common in people of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry. Being a carrier for one of these eight conditions does not impact your own health, but it may increase the likelihood of having a child affected by the condition.
